Heated Debate Erupts Over Women's Reservation Amendment Bill in Indian Parliament

During the discussion on the Women's Reservation Amendment Bill in the Lok Sabha today (Thursday, April 16), there was a heated exchange of words between the opposition and treasury benches members when Bharatiya Janata Party MP Nishikant Dubey mentioned the name of a prominent youth leader of Shiv Sena (UBT) in a veiled reference to the famous case involving the alleged suicide of an actress. Shiv Sena MPs created a ruckus in the House. Shiv Sena MPs said Dubey should apologise for his remarks. Shiv Sena MP Arvind Sawant, while participating in the discussion on the Constitution (131st) Amendment Bill 2026, the Delimitation Bill, 2026 and the Union Law (Amendment) Bill, 2026 related to the Women's Reservation Act, mentioned the names of two leaders associated with the BJP while referring to rape cases. He said that the BJP is defaming the opposition on the pretext of women's reservation, while its own leader has said that the accused Sawant is protesting against the reservation bill.
