High Court Quashes Arrest Warrant Against Abhishek Banerjee in Defamation Case

In fact, BJP leader Akash Vijayvargiya filed a defamation case against Abhishek Banerjee in the MP-MLA Special Court in Bhopal in the year 2021. It was alleged that Abhishek Banerjee had called him a "goonda" during a meeting held in Kolkata in November 2020, which tarnished his and his family's image. During the hearing of the case, the Special Court had issued an arrest warrant against Abhishek Banerjee. He then moved the High Court and argued that he was an elected MP and there was no possibility of him absconding. On this, the High Court had granted an interim stay on the execution of the arrest warrant in November 2025. However, even during the hearing on 8 May, the court had expressed displeasure over the absence of his lawyer and had given a clear warning that the interim relief would not continue in the event of arguments not being held on the next date. No advocate appeared on behalf of Abhishek Banerjee even in the hearing on Wednesday. When no party appeared in the court even after the pass over, the High Court quashed the arrest warrant.
