Guwahati: After the results of the Assam Assembly Election 2026, the state is once again going to be ruled by Himanta Biswa Sarma. Sarma has been unanimously elected as the leader of the legislative party in a meeting held at the BJP headquarters on Sunday in the presence of central observers JP Nadda and Nayab Singh Saini. Apart from 82 BJP MLAs, his leadership has also been stamped by his allies AGP and BPF, which shows his immense popularity and hold over the organization. After staking claim to form the government before Laxman Prasad Acharya, a grand swearing-in ceremony will now be held at the Veterinary College Ground in Guwahati on May 12. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and Chief Ministers of NDA-ruled states will be present on this occasion. The BJP and its allies have swept the opposition parties by winning 102 out of 126 seats, setting a new record in the history of Assam. Himanta Biswa Sarma's political journey has been constantly scaling new heights since he left the Congress in 2015. Sarma has emerged as the tallest Hindutva leader in North-East India and a strong cultural face to stop infiltration and national security.
