India and Uzbekistan Strengthen Ties with Comprehensive Strategic Partnership

Uzbekistan has become the first country in Central Asia with which India's bilateral relationship will now be known as a comprehensive strategic partner. This special status is given to relations with countries where both countries work on long-term common plans in accordance with each other's strategic interests. The bilateral talks between PM Narendra Modi and Uzbekistan's President Shavkat Mirziyoyev in Tashkent on Sunday decided to take relations to a new height. The two leaders decided to give India-Uzbekistan relations the status of a comprehensive strategic partnership (Comprehensive Strategic Partnership) and set a target of increasing bilateral trade to five billion dollars by 2030. Trade between the two countries is currently over one billion dollars. This was the tenth meeting between Modi and Mirziyoyev which shows the seriousness with which the two sides are working. It is also liberalized that Uzbekistan has long-term supplies of uranium to India, and China has nuclear stockpiles in Central Asia.
