India Announces Kailash Mansarovar Yatra Via Lipulekh Pass, Raising Tensions with Nepal

Kathmandu: This year's Kailash Mansarovar Yatra has been announced by the Government of India. It will pass through Lipulekh Pass in Pithoragarh district via Kumaon and Nathula Pass in Sikkim. The Ministry of External Affairs has informed that the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra will take place between June and August this year with the support of the Government of China. The cooperation of India and China for this Yatra may annoy Nepal. Lipulekh is the area that Nepal has been claiming and India has been denying this claim. Nepal Expert has demanded a strict attitude from its government on this issue. India has decided to start trade with China via Lipulekh in addition to Kailash Mansarovar Yatra. India and China are scheduled to resume trade here from June 2026. This may provoke a sharp reaction from Nepal. This will be a particularly challenging situation for the Prime Minister of Nepal, who came to Lipu and India in March itself.
