Amid doubts over Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman's visit to India, Indian High Commissioner Dinesh Trivedi met with Bangladeshi Finance Minister Amir Khusro Mahmud Chowdhury. The meeting discussed development projects and issues of mutual interest between the two countries. The Indian High Commission in Bangladesh said in a post on social media platform X on Thursday (August 20, 2026), "High Commissioner Dinesh Trivedi paid a courtesy call on Bangladesh's Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khusro Mahmud Chowdhury and discussed issues of mutual interest related to economic cooperation and bilateral development projects between India and Bangladesh." Earlier, High Commissioner Dinesh Trivedi had also met with Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Mohammad Sakhawat Hossain. The meeting comes at a time when tensions between the two countries have flared up once again. Former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina held a virtual press conference earlier this month, stating that she may return to Bangladesh in December. The press conference, however, was highly resented by the Bangladesh government. The Indian government had made it clear to Sheikh Hasina that no private conference had been organised by the Bangladesh government.
