India-Bangladesh Relations: Space for Differences, Dialogue in Democracy

India's Commissioner to Bangladesh on India-Bangladesh relations Dinesh Trivedi has made a big statement. At a dinner in Dhaka, Dinesh Trivedi acknowledged that there can be differences between two sovereign countries and they need space to pursue their own interests. He said that both countries need their own space, we have differences. We have our own logics, but dialogue in a democracy can only fix things. High Commissioner Dinesh Trivedi's statement comes after Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman almost refused to attend the BRICS summit in India. Bangladesh has said that India should'create an atmosphere'for PM Tarique Rahman's visit. The BRICS summit is scheduled for September in New Delhi. Meanwhile, clouds of uncertainty are hovering over PM Rahman's proposed visit to India. This uncertainty is due to the new souring of relations between the two countries due to Dhaka's demand for the extradition of deposed Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
