India- Bangladesh Tensions Rise Over Virtual Address by Former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina

On Wednesday, August 5, the eyes of the world will be on Sheikh Hasina, the former prime minister and expelled leader of Bangladesh. Hasina will address the world, including Bangladesh. She will deliver her speech virtually. The event will be organized by the Foreign Correspondents'Club of South Asia in Delhi. Bangladesh has objected to this. A statement issued by Bangladesh says that former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina or any leader or person of the Awami League should not be allowed to use Indian soil for political activities or to create instability in Bangladesh. Now the Ministry of External Affairs has responded to this. Ministry of External Affairs Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said,'The program you are talking about is being organized by a private media organization. The Government of India has no role in this. The government does not support any idea to be put forward in this program.'In addition, the Ministry of External Affairs has also given a statement regarding the BRICS Summit. The spokesperson of the Ministry said,'India has extended an invitation to the Prime Minister of Bangladesh to attend the 18th BRICS Summit to be held in New Delhi under the BIMSTEC.
