India Boosts LPG Production Amid Strait of Hormuz Tensions

Amid renewed tensions between the US and Iran near the Strait of Hormuz, India is increasing its LPG production by about 4000 tons so that there is no interruption in supply in the coming time. This change is aimed at reducing the dependence on the traditional shipping route of Hormuz. There is an atmosphere of instability around Hormuz. Meanwhile, India is trying to keep its Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) supply stable. The country's refineries are already operating above their normal level (37,000 to 38,000 metric tons per day) and are now going to increase it by about 4,000 metric tons daily. With this daily increase of 4,000 tons, the current production level of refineries has gone above their normal base level by more than 10 percent. India traditionally used to take 90 percent of its LPG supply from Gulf countries like the UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, and Saudi Arabia, which now have a different supply route. The government is looking for a major change in this supply chain.
