India is once again preparing to make a strong presence in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC). India has officially launched its campaign on Monday (13 July 2026) for a non-permanent seat in the Security Council for the term of the year 2028-29. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar launched India's campaign at a special event held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. The campaign has been named Peace (SHANTI), which means Securing Holistic Advancement through Norms, Trust, Integrity (Securing Holistic Development through Standards, Trust and Integrity). The event was attended by ambassadors and diplomats from many countries around the world. Elections for this term of the Security Council are to be held next year in June 2027. The only seat of the Asia-Pacific group will be contested between India and Pakistan. India has been a member of the Security Council for the year before this.
