External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will meet UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres at UN Headquarters next week and launch India's campaign for a non-permanent seat on the Security Council for the term of 2028-29. Jaishankar paid an official visit to Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait and Oman from July 5 to 10. He is expected to arrive in the US on Saturday (local time). He will launch India's official campaign for the Security Council's 2028-29 term at a special event at UN Headquarters on Monday. He will then attend the 3rd India-EU Business and Technology Council meeting in Brussels on July 2 and interact with his counterparts from the EU and Belgium. According to the schedule of meetings released by the UN, Guterres will meet Jaishankar at UN Headquarters on Monday afternoon (local time). India last became a member of the UN Security Council for the term of 2021-22. Elections for the ID3 term will be held in June next year, with India and Tajikistan competing for the only geo-security seat on the UN Security Council at a time when the world body is meeting.
