India Block today staged a protest in Delhi against the SIR goof-up and Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The leaders of the opposition parties stayed put outside AIR Bhawan demanding to meet Gyanesh Kumar. Now the Election Commission has claimed that the opposition had not made any appeal for a meeting with him. The Election Commission has issued a press release. In it, it has said that it received information through marches of many political parties and the media that some MPs wanted to meet the Commission. The ECI has informed that no political party or delegation had sought time to meet him till 4 pm today. Subsequently, it was learnt from the Delhi Police that a group of MPs led by Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi wanted to meet the Commission and submit a memorandum. The Commission has informed that a procedure was set for meetings with political parties in the year 2025, which has been communicated to all parties. As per rules, whenever a party or a joint delegation wants to meet the Commission, it has to first inform its representative through the media. The purpose of the meeting is to be discussed by the Delhi Police.
