Official level talks between India and Pakistan have been at a standstill since Operation Sindoor, but a series of Track-II talks have been going on behind the scenes. Dainik Jagran has learnt that in the last one year, there have been at least four rounds of informal talks involving former diplomats, former military officers, strategic experts and political figures from both countries. The most recent round took place just a few days ago in Colombo (Sri Lanka). Earlier, in Doha (Qatar) in February 2026, Thailand in December 2025, too, contacts have been made between the two countries in this informal manner. The main focus of the talks has been on strengthening crisis management mechanisms, handling any future tense situation, discussing terrorism and water-related issues, and maintaining channels of communication in emergency situations. According to diplomatic sources, in the initial two rounds, the participation of people directly or indirectly associated with the government was limited or negligible. These former officials and non-governmental organisations (especially the two recent consultants at the level of their respective government advisors or experts) have been involved.
