India has once again conveyed its clear position to Pakistan and the world on the Indus Waters Treaty. India has made it clear that the treaty will remain suspended until Pakistan completely and credibly stops cross-border terrorism. The Indian Ministry of External Affairs responded after Pakistan objected to India's plans to de-silt the Salal dam reservoir. During the weekly media briefing in New Delhi on Friday, 5 June, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that we have suspended the Indus Waters Treaty and it will remain suspended until Pakistan completely ends cross-border terrorism. Earlier, Pakistan had alleged that India is trying to use water as a weapon. India had also last month rejected the verdict of the Court of Arbitration (Court of Arbitration) allegedly constituted under the Indus Waters Treaty, 1960, calling it illegal. The MEA had said that the so-called Court of Arbitration constituted on 15 May 2026 had issued a ruling in the so-called Indus Waters Treaty and the so-called Maximum Storage Capacity of the Indus Waters Treaty, which the Ministry of External Affairs of India had never ruled on.
