Indian Government Agrees to Discuss Paper Leak and Lathicharge on Students in Parliament

On the third day of the monsoon session of Parliament on Wednesday (July 22, 2026), the issue of paper leak and lathicharge on students saw a huge uproar. The government agreed to discuss it in the House, but the opposition remained adamant on the demand for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. There was also a heated exchange of words between the ruling party and the opposition in the Parliament premises on this issue. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said in the Lok Sabha that the government was ready for a discussion on matters like paper leak and lathicharge. After this, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla sought to know the stand of Congress leader KC Venugopal on behalf of the opposition. KC Venugopal made it clear that his party would proceed with the discussion on this issue only if Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan resigns. Meanwhile, Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav also wanted to speak in the House, but did not get a chance to speak. He expressed displeasure that this issue is not of a party, but of the students and the youth. Akhilesh Yadav said that if the business committee did not listen to the students, then he would repeat it.
