Indian Government Calls Meeting with Floor Leaders Ahead of Monsoon Session

The monsoon session of parliament is scheduled to begin on Monday (July 20, 2026). The central government has called a meeting of floor leaders of all political parties in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha on Sunday (July 19, 2026), a day before the start of the session. The government has also invited 20 MPs who have joined the Nationalist Citizens Party of India (NCPI), excluding the Trinamool Congress (TMC), to attend the meeting. Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs and Minority Affairs Kiren Rijiju has sent a letter to Sudip Bandyopadhyay, leader of the faction of rebel MPs of the Trinamool Congress (TMC), on Saturday (July 18, 2026). In the letter, the union minister said, "Sudip Bandyopadhyay ji, recently you have joined the Nationalist Citizens Party of India (NCPI) along with 19 other MPs and you have also requested Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla ji to give recognition to your party, which is under his consideration."
