New Delhi: The central government has announced the elimination of Left Wing Extremism (LWE) from the country. It has since decided to root out the problem of insurgency from northeast India. The first focus is Manipur, which has been mired in ethnic violence for the past three years. The central government has set a deadline of 2029 for the elimination of insurgency from northeast India, Hindustan Times reported, quoting officials with knowledge of the matter. The central plan is to send security forces that were hitherto deployed in Naxal and Maoist-affected areas to insurgency-hit states like Manipur, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, and Nagaland. West Bengal elections and Amarnath Yatra await reports. Deployment of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) to northeastern states will begin after the West Bengal assembly elections and Amarnath Yatra. Bengal goes to polls in the second phase on April 29 and Amarnath Yatra is scheduled for July-August.
