NEW DELHI: The Indian Medical Association (IMA) has asked the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to deny certification for public exhibition of the Hindi film Suryaa: Ant Se Aarambh Tak , starring Bollywood actor Sunny Deol, due to its depiction of violence against healthcare workers. The IMA National President, Dr. Anilkumar J Nayak, in his letter to the CBFC Chairperson, Shashi Shekhar Vempati, said the film, slated for release on November 20, is being screened at a time when violence against doctors, nurses and other healthcare workers by aggrieved patients and relatives are frequent and rising, and even recognised by the Supreme Court. The IMA, which is the largest national representative body of doctors of modern medicine in India, had earlier objected to the film’s teaser released on October 19, which showed violence against doctors and nurses inside the hospital. Dr Nayak also asked the CBFC to refuse any trailer, teaser or promotional material of the film containing scenes of violence against doctors, nurses or hospital staff, or the dialogue imputing corruption to doctors as a class.
