Indian Monsoon Deficit: Rainfall Shortages Across Country

The country received good rains in July, but the deficit in June has not been met so far. From 1 June to 2 August 2026, the country received 410.1 mm of rain, while during this time the country should have received 463.6 mm of rain normally. That is, the country has received 12% less rain so far. The latest data from the Meteorological Department shows that this time the rain has not been the same everywhere. Central India received more rain than normal, while the greatest deficit was recorded in the east and northeast India. The impact of the rains in the coming weeks can be seen on agriculture, reservoirs and water availability. The onset of the monsoon in June was slow. Throughout the month, the country received 106.8 mm of rain, while the normal rainfall is 165.3 mm. That is, in June, 35.4% less rain was recorded. All the major meteorological regions of the country received less than normal rainfall. The greatest deficit was in central India, which received 50% less rain. 31.6% ID11 in northwest India, and 19.9% in the southeast India.
