Indian Monsoon Fluctuations Continue: Rainfall Expected to Persist

The southwest monsoon in India has been fluctuating this year. There was some improvement in July after a sharp decrease in June, but still remains about 11 percent deficient in seasonal rainfall across the country. However, the current situation shows that monsoon activity is not going to stop. A weakening depression or low pressure is still affecting western and central India. The weather has already become active in eastern India. As a result, no major break in rainfall is expected in the next few days. The recent bulletin and satellite images of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) show that the monsoon trough is active. The low-pressure area over western Rajasthan and adjoining areas is weakening, but the associated moisture and cyclonic circulation still remains a source of rain. Meanwhile, the clouds over northeast and east India have become active. Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Tripura, Bihar, West Bengal, Jharkhand and central India have received heavy rainfall in the last few days. The depression system over the west-central Bay of Bengal has gradually intensified.
