After being denied a ticket by the BJP in 2008, Kirori made political history by winning the election as an independent from Todabhim. At the Panchna meeting, Kirori had mentioned that when he resigned from the government over the ST reservation issue, the people of Todabhim had blessed him with an independent election in 2008.
