Congress leader Udit Raj challenged the home minister to produce documentary evidence to back his claim. He said that if there are three crore infiltrators, then their list should be made public digitally. He questioned why the government could not identify the alleged infiltrators and throw them out of the country despite being in power at the Centre for about 12 and a half years. Samajwadi Party MP Awadhesh Prasad also questioned Shah's claim. He said that the home minister probably does not have the correct information about who the infiltrators are. He said that many people fought for the country's independence and there are many people whose ancestors are buried in this country. It is important to understand the facts before labelling such people as infiltrators. BJP's Jharkhand spokesperson Pratul Shah defended Amit Shah's statement, alleging that illegal infiltrators have affected the demography of some areas of Jharkhand. In a conversation with IANS, he said that the last census and the population structure in the country in 2011 had recorded many illegal infiltrators and that the Congress has been in power for the past several decades.
