Indian Politics: Congress Leader Detained Amid Temple Gift Theft Protest

The politics over the Ayodhya Ram temple gift theft intensified. Congress state president Ajay Rai was detained by the police at a hotel in Ayodhya late on Monday night. Shortly after, he was taken to the guest house of the agricultural university. Congress MPs Kishori Lal Sharma, Tanuj Punia, and Ujjwal Raman Singh have been placed under house arrest. A Congress delegation led by Ajay Rai had arrived to protest against the gift theft. They had announced a gherao of the trust office on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Congress workers marched to the Ram Janmabhoomi temple at noon. The police stopped them at Tedhi Bazar, a kilometre before the temple. This provoked the workers. The police used mild force to detain them. Ajay Rai's wife Reena Rai was dragged into the car. Earlier, she released a video from Varanasi.
