Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi Addresses Seychelles Parliament, Emphasizes Cultural Ties

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday (June 28, 2026) addressed the Parliament of Seychelles, showcasing the centuries-old and deep-rooted cultural ties of the two countries to the world in a new way. He became the first Prime Minister of India to address the National Assembly. During his historic speech, he recalled the connect between the two countries not only at the government level but also among the common people, mentioning "samosas, the joy of Deepawali and the garba dance of Navratri," to which all the MPs present there smiled. PM Modi said at the beginning of his speech that it was a great honour for him to stand in front of the Seychelles Parliament. He has arrived there with love and good wishes from the 140 million people of India. He reminded that after becoming the Prime Minister in 2015, he had a say in the Indian Ocean region. PM Modi said, "I came here in 2015 because I believed that India's vision for the Indian Ocean is stronger than it has ever been in 50 years.
