Indian Woman Dies Under Suspicious Circumstances Amid Dowry Demands

Mona Shankhwar, 23, a resident of Lodhi Mohalla, Etawah, died under suspicious circumstances on the evening of 16 June. The deceased's brother Shivam and mother Radha Devi have accused husband Sachin, mother-in-law Hansmukhi and other in-laws of strangulating her to death for dowry. The accused in-laws are absconding since the incident. Kotwali police have registered a case of dowry death on the complaint of the deceased's mother and arrested father-in-law Balram Shankhwar. Police have sent the body to the mortuary for postmortem and are investigating the matter thoroughly. Mona, a resident of Jaitpur, Agra, was married to Sachin Shankhwar on 12 March 2026. The mother-in-law alleges that the in-laws were constantly harassing Mona for dowry ever since their marriage. Husband Sachin was unemployed, due to which the mother-in-law often ill-treated Mona.
