Iran Endorses US-backed Memorandum Amid Economic Struggles and Regional Tensions

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has endorsed a memorandum of understanding with the United States. He described it as the best way to get the country out of the situation of "no war, no peace." In his statement to the state news agency IRNA on Sunday, President Pezeshkian said, "There is not a single provision in this agreement that amounts to surrender." He added, "The Supreme Leader decides the policies, and we will follow the same path." President Pezeshkian also linked this agreement to the economic situation of the country. He said that Iran is unable to attract foreign investment in this stalemated period of the war. Strict sanctions and naval blockades have caused major damage to Iran's economy amid this ongoing war with the United States and Israel. On the other hand, the new head of Iran's top security body has warned of a tough stance. He said that if Iran supports the US threats to impose more sanctions on the neighboring country, the president will tell Donald Trump to end the nuclear deal signed with Iran in June.
