Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has invited Prime Minister Narendra Modi to attend the funeral ceremony of the country's former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Diplomatic sources said on Wednesday. Khamenei's funeral will take place from July 5 to 9. However, India has not confirmed the invitation to Prime Minister Modi. Khamenei ruled Iran for three decades. He was killed in a joint attack on Iran by Israel and the United States on February 28. Diplomatic sources said President Pezeshkian has invited Modi to attend the funeral ceremony. Funerals for Khamenei will be held in Tehran and Qum on July 5, 6 and 7, while the last one will be held in the city of Mashhad on July 9. The invitation from Iran has been received by the Ministry of External Affairs. However, it is not yet clear which Prime Minister Modi or his son, Khamenei, will be declared dead by India.
