Iran Sets Condition for Talks with US Amid Rising Tensions in the Middle East

Tehran: Amid rising war clouds in the Middle East, Iran has taken a hard line against the US. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has set an important condition for any possible talks with Washington. He has said in clear terms that Iran has no trust in the US and if the US really wants peace, it will have to prove its seriousness. The Iranian foreign minister said in a statement that Iran is making continuous efforts to de-escalate the conflict and reduce tensions in the region. However, he hit out at Washington, adding, "Looking at past experiences, we have no trust in the US. We will only sit down at the negotiating table when we are sure that Washington is really serious about resolving this dispute."
