Iran Warns of Increased Tensions Over Strait of Hormuz Amid Ongoing Negotiations

Conflicts and tensions over the Strait of Hormuz are once again on the rise in the Middle East after an initial peace deal was signed with the United States. Meanwhile, Iran's Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi has issued a major threat over the Strait of Hormuz on Sunday (June 28, 2026). He said that if Iran's control over the strategic Strait of Hormuz is tried to be challenged in any way, it will further increase tensions in the region, while negotiations to end the Middle East war are still ongoing. Iranian Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi, who is on a visit to the Iraqi capital Baghdad, addressed a press conference, saying, "Any attempt by the Islamic Republic of Iran to replace the current arrangement with a new or different arrangement will make the current situation even more difficult, delay the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and increase tensions, as well as the memorandum of understanding (MoU) that they have seen with the two sides last night."
