Iranian Football Team Receives US Visas Amid Ongoing Tensions

Despite the ongoing war between Iran and Israel, the players of the Iranian football team have received visas to the United States. Although many of the team's support staff and officials have not yet received US visas, Iran has accused the United States of discrimination. According to Iranian state media, 14 officials and support staff are still waiting for visas, including Football Federation Secretary General Hedayat Mombeni, Vice President Mehdi Mohammad Nabi. The federation says this does not give the team a level playing field and that it will take the matter up with FIFA. US officials say visas have been issued to all players, coaches, trainers, and some support staff, but some applications have not been approved. The Iranian team is currently practicing in Antalya, Turkey, and will be leaving for Mexico. Qatar has strongly condemned the Iranian attacks on Kuwait and Bahrain. Qatar says these attacks are an open violation of the sovereignty of both countries and international law. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has appealed to all parties to immediately stop escalating the conflict in the region.
