Jharkhand Ruling Alliance Faces Friction Over Rajya Sabha Seats

There are indications of differences within the ruling alliance in Jharkhand over Rajya Sabha seats. The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) has staked claim to both Rajya Sabha seats in the state, while the Congress has already announced its candidate for one of these seats. This seems to be creating a situation of friction between the two allies. The issue figured prominently at a crucial meeting of the JMM, attended by party MLAs, ministers and senior leaders. The party's strategy was discussed at the meeting and several leaders opined that the JMM should contest the two vacant seats. After the meeting, state minister Yogendra Mahato said that all party MLAs, MPs and ministers are unanimous that the two Rajya Sabha seats should be represented by the JMM. He also informed that the final decision on the issue has to be taken by Chief Minister Hemant Soren, who has been given the responsibility of coordinating and strategising the party candidates.
