Joseph Vijay's Party Wins Big in Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections

Colombo: Actor-turned-politician Joseph Vijay has delivered a stunning performance in the Tamil Nadu assembly elections. Vijay's TVK (Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam), popularly known as Thalapathy among fans, has emerged as the single largest party by winning 108 of the 234 seats in the Tamil Nadu assembly. TVK is just ten seats short of the majority mark and Vijay is almost certain to become the chief minister of Tamil Nadu. Vijay's victory in neighbouring Sri Lanka is being widely discussed. Vijay's stance on Katchatheevu has been criticised in the past. Vijay is also expected to stir up controversy. According to The Hindu, Sri Lankan Tamil media prominently featured Vijay's victory in the Tamil Nadu assembly elections on their front pages on Tuesday. Popular Tamil newspapers such as Sri Lanka's Weerakesari, Tamilan, Dinakaran and Dinakural described Vijay's victory as their biggest news story. Vijay's media coverage in Sri Lanka showed Vijay's victory as a "tsunami" and a "giant cartoon" in the Southern Mirror.
