Karnataka Congress Leader Says No Change in Chief Minister's Post for Now

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Thursday said there is no change in the chief minister's post in Karnataka at the moment and the leadership issue in the state will be resolved soon. His statement comes at a time when there is talk in Karnataka's ruling party and political circles that a decision on leadership change and cabinet reshuffle is likely after the results of the assembly elections in four states and one union territory are out on May 4. Supporters of Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar are fuelling the buzz around a power-sharing deal with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. He says that after the Congress's victory in the 2023 Karnataka assembly elections, it was agreed that Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar will take turns as chief ministers during the five-year term. Meanwhile, Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara on Wednesday said that if Kharge, a senior leader with a lot of experience, becomes the chief minister, everyone in the ruling Congress party will be welcome.
