The BJP and its allies in Karnataka have made serious allegations of malpractices in the SIR. On Monday (July 6), several NDA leaders, including Union Ministers Pralhad Joshi, SD Kumaraswamy, wrote to the Chief Electoral Officer of Karnataka, alleging large-scale irregularities in the ongoing SIR campaign in the state. The complaint states that the Booth Level Officers (BLOs) are not following the mandatory door-to-door verification process as per the prescribed guidelines of the Election Commission. It is alleged that instead of conducting personal verification of voters, enumeration forms, community halls, mosques, and even at the homes of some BLOs are being filled. NDA leaders claimed that WhatsApp groups have also been created to call voters to these places to complete the SIR process. The BJP says that this is a clear violation of the guidelines of the Election Commission and raises questions on the fairness of the electoral roll revision process. The complaint also states that some sections of the state media have shared evidence of these alleged irregularities.
