In a significant political development ahead of Union Home Minister Amit Shah's proposed visit to Jammu and Kashmir, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has called for a meeting of all National Conference (NC) MLAs on Wednesday (June 3). Though the exact purpose of the meeting remains a mystery, the letter states that the meeting has been called to discuss what he described as "matters of collective importance" and "issues of public welfare." Sources said that apart from NC MLAs, the Chief Minister has also invited all independent MLAs supporting the ruling party. Four independent MLAs - Akram Choudhary (MLA Surankote), Dr. Rameshwar Singh (MLA Bani), Muzaffar Iqbal Khan (MLA Thanamandi), and Pyare Lal Sharma (MLA Inderwal) - have also been invited. The meeting is currently scheduled for 3 June at the Chief Minister's Gupkar residence and all MLAs will attend it. Sources close to the Chief Minister have confirmed that the CM has personally "informed all the independent MLAs supporting the ruling party" about the importance of the public welfare meeting. "
