Kenya's President Orders Tata Chemicals to Halt Operations in Lake Magadi

The government has taken a big decision regarding Tata Chemicals in Kenya. President William Ruto has ordered to stop the company's work in Lake Magadi. He says that Tata Chemicals has been working here for a long time, but there has been no necessary employment or investment for the people in the area. Ruto questioned this and said,'Are we slaves of other people?'During a visit to the Kajiado area in southern Kenya, Ruto said that the Tata company got a chance for about 100 years, but it did not set up a big factory in Kajiado. He said that the government will now bring new investors and they will be asked to set up glass and chemical factories in Kajiado. Meanwhile, he questioned,'Are we slaves of other people.'President Ruto says that Kenyan raw materials should be processed in the country instead of just sending them to other countries. This will provide employment to the local people, tax and investment benefits to the business people of Kajiado.
