The Left Democratic Front (LDF) is gearing up to script a new chapter in the history of Kerala politics. Within hours of the announcement of the Assembly election schedule on Sunday, the CPEM released its list of 81 candidates. The list makes it clear that the Pinarayi Vijayan government is not willing to take any risks in its quest to return to power for the third consecutive term. The party is banking on experienced and current legislators rather than any major surprises or dramatic changes. At the core of the party's strategy is to take the development work and people-oriented projects of the current government to the people. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan is once again contesting from Dharmadam constituency in Kannur district, known as his bastion. On the other hand, the party has fielded Kerala's home-grown'Shailaja Teacher ', former health minister KK Shailaja, from Peravoor constituency. The party is also looking to strengthen its dominance by fielding Shailaja, who won the last election with a record margin, in this crucial seat in Kannur.
