Kerala Issues Yellow Alert for Heavy Rainfall, Residents Advised to Exercise Caution

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday issued a yellow alert for six districts in Keralam, forecasting isolated heavy rainfall in Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Idukki and Thrissur. According to the district rainfall forecast issued by the IMD’s Meteorological Centre in Thiruvananthapuram at 7 am on Monday, isolated heavy rainfall is likely in these districts. The forecast covers Keralam and Lakshadweep for September 21 to 25. The IMD defines heavy rainfall as 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm of rain in a 24-hour period. A yellow alert advises residents and authorities to remain vigilant and follow official weather advisories. The weather department has also forecast light to moderate rainfall in several other parts of Keralam during the period, with rainfall intensity and distribution expected to vary across districts. Residents have been advised to stay updated with weather bulletins and exercise caution in areas vulnerable to waterlogging, landslides and other rain-related disruptions. Authorities in hilly and low-lying areas have also been advised to follow instructions issued by local administration and disaster management agencies as weather activity continues across the state.
