Kupwara District Sees Significant Growth in Private Education Institutions

North Kupwara district, with a population (as per Census 2011), does not have complete basic amenities for the people, but the district has witnessed a positive change in terms of education and the standard of education has improved significantly. The district has seen a significant increase in private educational institutions in the last four years; 32 new private schools have been opened between 2019 and 2024. This development comes after the merger of government schools in the last few years, as the enrolment of students in them was very low or zero. According to government data in response to an RTI filed by RTI activist MM Shuja, Kupwara's Chief Education Officer has stated that 32 new private schools have been opened in Kupwara district between 2019 and 2024. The border district has seen a steady increase in the number of private educational institutions. This increasing expansion reflects the growing demand for private schools in both the town and rural areas of the district. Government data shows that Kupwara and Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar district has a large network of private schools, spread over the Kupwara, Kupwara, Kupwara, Tekna, Kupwara, and Kupwara.
