The number of deaths due to suspected hooch and illicit liquor in the Banda subdivision of Sagar district of Madhya Pradesh is increasing. At the same time, political rhetoric is also going on in the state. The health of many people suddenly deteriorated after drinking alcohol in the nearby villages including Nauraj, Gugra Khurd and Patan of Banda. Different reports put the death toll at more than a dozen. 11 people are reported to have died so far due to the consumption of hooch, while 85 people are undergoing treatment. According to the report, about 85 victims are undergoing treatment in different hospitals. Among the people who fell ill due to hooch, 59 are admitted in Bundelkhand Medical College, 17 in District Hospital and 7 in Banda Civil Hospital. While one victim has been admitted to AIIMS Bhopal by airlift, the final official figure of deaths will be clear only after administrative and medical investigation. The police have registered 20 FIRs and 10 accused have been given strict instructions by the Chief Minister Mohan Yadav in view of the seriousness of the incident.
