Madhya Pradesh Revives 400-Year-Old Water Technology to Solve Crisis

The Madhya Pradesh government is going to use a 400-year-old historical engineering technique to solve the water crisis. Under this, a scientific campaign has been launched to revive the Kundi Bhandara system located in Burhanpur district. In fact, this technology created by a Mughal engineer used to deliver water from the hills of Satpura to the entire city without any pump or electricity, only through gravity. This 400-year-old system can now also help solve the problem of modern times. Under the reign of Mughal Emperor Jahangir (around 1615 AD), under the leadership of Mughal governor Abdur Rahim Khan-e-Khana, the Kundi Bhandara water system was built on the Persian'qanat'principle. The network consists of more than 100 vertical shafts. All these shafts are connected to galleries about 4 kilometers long. This system used to collect groundwater coming from the hills of Satpura and protected the city of Burhanpur. Despite the centuries-long illegal access to this water structure, several shafts have been built and inspected recently.
