Manali-Leh Rail Line Construction Faces Challenges from Nature

The Manali-Leh rail line may prove to be strategically and touristically important, connecting inhospitable regions of the Himalayas, but the challenges of nature in the way of its construction are no less. High mountains, glaciers, snow-clad land, and changing climate may pose a challenge to the safety of this project. IIT Mandi researchers have identified several areas around the rail line in the study where there is a need to be more alert to natural hazards.
