Meta Meets Indian Ministry Over Removed Video of PM Modi

Meta had restricted a video of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Facebook during the agitation at Jantar Mantar. Meta's troubles continue to mount. Meta's team met with MeitY Secretary S. Krishnan on Wednesday (August 5). The team was led by Chief Global Affairs Officer Joel Kaplan. The meeting lasted about 45 minutes and discussed the case in detail. Meta officials discussed the reasons for the video's removal in a 45-minute meeting at the ministry. Meta explained the reasons behind the video's removal in error. It also discussed Facebook's failure to effectively block Child Sexual Abuse and Harassment Material (CSAM) and other regulatory issues. Officials will now meet with Information Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. Meta had earlier said that the video was not removed intentionally. Importantly, the video was not shown for a long time. However, the company later apologized to the Ministry of Electronics and Technology for the incident, which the company later said was removed in error.
