Modi and Trump Discuss Security of Strait of Hormuz Amid Escalating Tensions

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had a long conversation with US President Donald Trump in this critical moment. The two heads of state agreed that keeping the Strait of Hormuz safe and open is essential to maintaining the stability of the global economy. In a post on the handle x, US Ambassador to India Sergio Gore wrote, "President Donald Trump spoke with Prime Minister Modi. They discussed the ongoing situation in the Middle East and the importance of keeping the Strait of Hormuz open." This was the first time Modi and Trump spoke since the US attack on Iran on February 28. Prime Minister Modi expressed deep concern over the war in both houses of parliament. In a clear statement in the Lok Sabha, he said, "Attacks on commercial ships in international waters or any kind of obstruction to the passage of Indian ships in the Strait of Hormuz are unacceptable."
