An administrative lapse has come to light during the general body meeting of the BJP-ruled Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) in Nagpur, Maharashtra. Only two intervals were sung during the national anthem'Vande Mataram ', which is traditionally sung at the beginning of the meeting, while according to the recent directives of the central government, it is mandatory to sing all its intervals in full. This news about the singing of Vande Mataram has come to light at a time when the BJP and its allies sharply criticized Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge for singing only two intervals of Vande Mataram in their national convention recently. Ironically, only two intervals were also sung in the meeting of the BJP-ruled Nagpur Municipal Corporation. The instructions of the Union Ministry of Home Affairs regarding Vande Mataram are that all the six intervals of'Vande Mataram'should be sung before the national anthem in all government and official programs. However, when the municipal corporation secretary of Nagpur was questioned by the Congress party about the singing of only two intervals of Vande Mataram before the national anthem, only two were sung.
