The NDA has fielded eight candidates, including two women, for the by-election to nine seats in the legislative council. Voting will be held on June 18. Nominations will be filed by June 8. Apart from these eight, the NDA has also announced candidates for the by-election to one seat in the council, which fell vacant on Friday after the resignation of former chief minister Nitish Kumar. Five of the eight are extremely backward, including two women. The BJP has also nominated Bhojpuri film star Pawan Singh Singh Singh. He is being sent to the council to blunt the rebellion of BJP leader and former Union minister Rajkumar Singh. Pawan Singh had weakened the NDA's prospects in several seats by contesting as an independent from Karakat in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. All JD-U candidates will go to the legislative council for the first time. All three new faces except Sanjay Mayukh in the BJP. Apart from Pawan Singh and Sanjay Mayukh, Anil Kumar Thakur and Sheela Pandit have been nominated by the JD-U in the council.
