Nepal's Prime Minister Calls for Diplomatic Talks on Border Dispute, Seeks UK Involvement

Nepal's Prime Minister Balen Shah has called for diplomatic talks on the border dispute two months after forming the government. Balen Shah also called for the British to be involved in negotiations to resolve the border dispute. For the first time since Nepal took power on 27 March, Prime Minister Balen Shah addressed the House of Representatives. Shah responded to questions from opposition lawmakers. He called for a collaborative and historic approach to border management. The key takeaway from Prime Minister Balen Shah's address was that he also called for the United Kingdom to be formally involved in this diplomatic dialogue. Balen Shah says that the modern borders of the region date back to colonial times, so the British government has a historical responsibility in this matter and has important documentary evidence. Speaking in Parliament, PM Balen Shah said, "When the British were leaving India, this problem was left for future generations. That is why England believes that this matter should also be resolved through diplomatic dialogue." Balen Shah said, "The government of Nepal will resolve all these issues through diplomatic channels."
