New Zealand Set to Sign Free Trade Agreement with India: PM

Wellington: New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon on Sunday said New Zealand will sign a free trade agreement (FTA) with India on Monday, describing it as a "once-in-a-generation agreement." He said the free trade agreement will give New Zealand exporters access to one of the world's largest markets. New Zealand's PM posted a video on social media platform X in which he said "New Zealand will have a free trade agreement with India on Monday night." However, some New Zealand leaders are opposed to the trade deal with India. New Zealand Minister Shane Jones has called the India-New Zealand free trade agreement (FTA) a "butter chicken tsunami," sparking a racial slur. Opposition party and community leaders have called his comments offensive. He said he made the remarks against migration while Prime Minister Christopher Luxon called his comments "unnecessary."
