Organ Donation Awareness Campaign Sees Cornea Transplant Success, But Kidney Transplant Waiting List Remains Unchanged in Jammu and Kashmir

The ongoing awareness campaign on organ donation by the State Organ and Transplant Organization Jammu and Kashmir is showing results, but the organ donation of brain dead people is not getting any success. That is why the waiting list for kidney transplants in the state is as usual. Although cornea transplants are continuously taking place. In Jammu and Kashmir, in the year 2022, the Government Medical College Jammu got the approval for kidney transplants. After this, 36 people have got kidney transplants in this institution so far, but all of them have been done in their blood relations. Somewhere mother has donated kidney to son, somewhere father has donated kidney to son. A similar situation exists in Srinagar Medical College. This college has also got nine kidney transplants after the year 2022. Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences Soura has the highest number of kidney transplants after the year 2022. Around 180 people have got kidney transplants, but no brain patient has been transplanted here. These organizations have got more than two names of kidney transplants at this time.
