Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir Sees Mass Protests Over Election Demands

Massive protests are going on in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) these days. People are on the streets and raising slogans against the Pakistan government sitting in Islamabad. The situation has become so bad that the army and police have to be brought to the ground to suppress the protests in large numbers. The protests in PoK have also become violent. Let us know what is the reason behind this turmoil in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. Pakistan is holding legislative assembly elections in Gilgit-Baltistan. But the Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) of the region said that elections should not be held until its demands are met. JAAC had announced to protest on 9 June to get its demands met. Before this, Pakistan banned JAAC under the guise of public order and security. The Pakistan government banned this organization and arrested many of its members. The Joint Action Committee of Pakistan has been demanding electricity in the regional assembly for the last 38 years.
